Versatility to choose path and/or create new folder for images ( at least for administrator)
Any content type could have a different path for images and own thumbs (10.000 and more images in a folder is not the best).
Many extensions ask for a specific folder (slideshow etc), could be great to load directly images in a specific folder.

Been lot’s of work. Now have to test backwards compatibility and if F2C with the changes still works!

Yes, I need this as well. I create sliders for form submissions, and need a new folder for every submission. Without that, it's not easy to tell the slider where to find the images for each article. -
Please note that you can already 'call' the folder in your template:

Probably goes without saying, but it would be nice to include file uploads to defined locations also.
